GMO At Present

The Gaya Muslim Orphanage is registered under the Society's Registration Act 1860, and is a Muslim minority managed institution. Presently, the GMO is housed in a vast campus spread over 30 kotthas of land. Now the GMO has three large beautiful single storey concrete buildings having 55 big and well ventilated rooms, a Middle School, a High School.

Enayeth Technical Institute

The GMO presents a rare combination of Islamic education and mainstream education that serves the daily life (based on Bihar Government syllabus). An upper primary school was run in the premises of the GMO that was recognized by the State Government in 1937.

Education is the key to progress and prosperity. One of the most pressing needs that Muslims in India are in need of is increased opportunities to attend institutions of higher education. IMRC believes strongly in investing in the future generations of Indian Muslims by supporting the following education initiatives.

The Gaya Muslim Orphanage (GMO) owes its existence to the munificence of Enayeth Khan, a great wiseacre and native of village Kolowna (1 km from Cherki).

Provided Education

Food Resources

Shelter Arrangement

Fund Utilized

The GMO was established in October 1917 at Cherki, 20 kms from Gaya town on Gaya-Sherghati road. Initially, the orphanage was put up in a rented thatched hutment for which the founder Enayeth Khan paid 50 paise (eight annas) as monthly rental from his own pocket.Enayeth Khan, who was working then as a clerk with the Calcutta Fire Brigade on a monthly salary of Rs. 50, invested a modest sum of Rs. 30 from his purse for the establishment purposes. Before getting an employment with the Calcutta Fire Brigade, the founder also worked as a hotel boy (washing utensil etc) at the Grad Hotel in Calcutta.

The Gaya Muslim Orphanage has several plans in the pipeline, which are not being able to be implemented because of lack of funds. Some of the future plans of the GMO are the following:-

  • (1.) The GMO wants to raise the current strength of orphan boys from 125 to 500.
  • (2.) The GMO has 14 acres of land adjoining its campus. There are plans to construct staff quarters and hostels for students.
  • (3.) Earlier, the GMO used to run 'Industrial Training Institute' in its campus, and trained the students in trades like carpentry, mechanical, electrical etc.
However, the 'Industrial Training Institute' has been folded up. Now, the GMO has established 'Enayeth Technical Institute', the foundation stone of which has been laid by Governor of Bihar Dr. A. R. Kidwai in the 14 acres land of the GMO. The 'Enayeth Private Industrial Training Institute' will run under the aegis of Enayeth Technical Institute under the GMO Managing Committee. It will impart vocational training in areas such as paramedical, computers, business management etc. Funds and donations are required to set up infrastructure and pay salaries to teachers.
  • (4) The GMO wants to raise the current standard of education. Besides Urdu medium, the GMO wants to establish a separate English medium wing so that students can get quality education and compete in other areas in order to make their lives more meaningful and gainful.

The Messenger of Allah said, what translated means, "Would you like that your heart becomes soft and that you acquire what you need? Be merciful wiht the orphan, pat his head and feed him from what you eat.
